Tool guide
Free Online WebM to MP4 Converter
Convert one WebM video into an MP4 container in your browser. Formatza first attempts a fast stream copy and, when the existing codecs are not suitable, falls back to H.264 video and AAC audio encoding.

Steps
How it works
- Choose one WebM file up to 250 MB.
- Preview the source video and review its duration and dimensions.
- Start conversion so FFmpeg can attempt stream copy or re-encode when required.
- Preview the MP4 result and download the completed file.
Highlights
Key features
- Accepts WebM input and creates a real video/mp4 output.
- Attempts to copy existing streams first, avoiding re-encoding when the streams fit the MP4 container.
- Falls back to H.264 video with AAC audio when stream copy cannot complete.
- Adds MP4 fast-start metadata for practical web playback.
- Provides browser-first progress, output preview, file-size details, and download.
Use cases
Common uses
- Prepare a WebM recording for software that expects MP4.
- Create a more commonly accepted copy for sharing or presentation playback.
- Convert a downloaded browser recording into an MP4 container.
- Use WebM footage in an MP4-oriented editing workflow.
Notes
Limitations to know
- This is a single-file converter with no batch, bulk, multiple-file, or ZIP support.
- WebM and MP4 are containers; unsupported video or audio codecs can still make a file fail.
- When fallback encoding is required, quality and file size may change.
- Transparent WebM video is not reliably preserved in the common H.264 MP4 fallback.
- MP4 improves compatibility in many workflows but does not guarantee playback in every application or device.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is WebM to MP4 conversion lossless?
It can avoid re-encoding only when stream copy succeeds. If that fails, Formatza re-encodes video as H.264 and audio as AAC, which is not lossless.
Will the MP4 keep audio?
Audio is copied when compatible or re-encoded to AAC during fallback. Files with unsupported or missing audio may behave differently.
Why can a .webm file fail?
The extension identifies the container, not the codecs inside it. The bundled FFmpeg engine must be able to decode those codecs.
Will transparent WebM stay transparent?
Transparency is not reliably supported by the H.264 MP4 fallback and may be lost.
Can I batch convert WebM files?
No. The current tool converts one WebM file at a time, up to 250 MB.
