Free Online Date Difference Calculator

Find the calendar difference between two dates in years, months, days, weeks, and total days. Formatza normalizes reversed ranges, supports optional end-date inclusion, and calculates from date-only values in your browser.

Steps

How it works

  • Choose a start date and an end date.
  • Enable Include end date when the final calendar date should count.
  • Calculate the date interval in your browser.
  • Review, copy, or download the calendar components and total-day result.

Highlights

Key features

  • Reports calendar years, months, and remaining days.
  • Also shows whole weeks and total calendar days.
  • Accepts dates in either chronological order and identifies a reversed range.
  • Offers optional end-date inclusion.
  • Uses date-only inputs rather than elapsed hours.

Use cases

Common uses

  • Measure a calendar span in years, months, and days.
  • Compare contract, project, or event dates.
  • Check total days alongside calendar components.
  • Understand intervals that cross leap years or months of different lengths.

Notes

Limitations to know

  • Calendar months and years have variable lengths and are not fixed-duration conversions.
  • Reversed ranges are normalized for the component result rather than returned as negative components.
  • The end date is excluded unless Include end date is enabled.
  • The calculation does not include times, hours, business-day rules, or holidays.
  • Date-only arithmetic follows the browser's local calendar.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

5 answers
Are the start and end dates counted inclusively?

The end date is excluded by default. Enable Include end date to add the final calendar date to the calculation.

Does the result include total days?

Yes. It reports total days and whole weeks as well as calendar years, months, and remaining days.

How are months calculated?

Months are calendar components, so their day length depends on the dates and months in the selected interval.

Can the end date be earlier than the start date?

Yes. The range is normalized for calculation and the output indicates that the dates were reversed.

How are leap years handled?

Valid browser date inputs include February 29 and other leap-year effects in the calendar interval.
