Tool guide

Free Online MP3 to WAV Converter

Convert one MP3 into an uncompressed PCM 16-bit WAV file in your browser. WAV can be easier to use in editors and audio software, but it is usually much larger and cannot restore detail already removed by MP3 compression.

Steps

How it works

  • Choose one MP3 file up to 150 MB.
  • Preview the MP3 and review its duration.
  • Decode the MP3 and encode the audio as PCM 16-bit WAV.
  • Preview and download the WAV output.

Highlights

Key features

  • Validates MP3 input before conversion.
  • Creates a WAV container with PCM signed 16-bit little-endian audio.
  • Displays FFmpeg progress, duration, previews, and output size.
  • Uses the MP3 filename as the base for the WAV download.
  • Runs as a browser-first single-file conversion.

Use cases

Common uses

  • Prepare an MP3 for an editor that works best with PCM WAV.
  • Create an uncompressed intermediate for an authorized editing workflow.
  • Use MP3 audio in software that requires WAV input.
  • Avoid an additional lossy encode at this conversion step.

Notes

Limitations to know

  • Converting MP3 to WAV does not recover frequencies or detail lost during MP3 compression.
  • The WAV is uncompressed PCM and will usually be substantially larger than the MP3.
  • Only one MP3 is processed per run; batch, bulk, and ZIP conversion are unavailable.
  • Output is fixed to PCM 16-bit audio with no bit-depth, sample-rate, or channel controls.
  • Metadata and cover art are not explicitly mapped into the WAV output.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

5 answers
Does MP3 to WAV improve audio quality?

No. WAV stores the decoded MP3 without another lossy codec, but it cannot restore information the MP3 already discarded.

What WAV format is created?

The current FFmpeg command creates PCM signed 16-bit little-endian audio in a WAV container.

Why is the WAV much larger?

PCM WAV is uncompressed, while MP3 uses lossy compression to reduce file size.

Can I convert multiple MP3 files at once?

No. The converter accepts one MP3 file per run, up to 150 MB.

Is the WAV a true copy of the original recording?

It is a decoded representation of the MP3, not the original pre-MP3 source.
