Tool guide

Free Online Morse Code Converter

Translate English letters, digits, and supported punctuation to Morse code, or decode properly spaced Morse code back to text. The browser-first converter uses spaces between letters and a slash between words.

Steps

How it works

  • Choose Text to Morse or Morse to Text.
  • Enter plain text, paste Morse code, or choose one plain-text file.
  • Use spaces between Morse letters and / between Morse words when decoding.
  • Convert, then copy or download the text result.

Highlights

Key features

  • Converts the English alphabet A-Z in both directions.
  • Supports digits 0-9 and a defined set of common International Morse punctuation.
  • Treats lowercase and uppercase text letters the same when encoding.
  • Uses clear space and slash delimiters for readable Morse output.
  • Rejects unsupported characters and unknown Morse sequences with specific errors.
  • Provides text-file input, copy, and text download actions.

Use cases

Common uses

  • Translate a short message into dots and dashes.
  • Decode a correctly delimited Morse code message.
  • Create examples for Morse code study or documentation.
  • Prepare Morse text for puzzles and demonstrations.

Notes

Limitations to know

  • The lookup table covers A-Z, 0-9, and selected punctuation rather than every international Morse symbol or non-Latin alphabet.
  • A space must separate letters and a slash must separate words for reliable decoding.
  • Unsupported plain-text characters and unknown dot-dash sequences stop conversion instead of being guessed.
  • Audio playback, live keying, transmission, timing practice, and learning exercises are not included.
  • Morse code is a representation system, not encryption.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

5 answers
How do I separate Morse code letters and words?

Put one or more spaces between letter codes and use a slash between words.

Are numbers and punctuation supported?

Digits 0-9 and common punctuation such as periods, commas, question marks, slashes, and several symbols are supported.

Is text input case-sensitive?

No. Text is converted to uppercase before the Morse lookup is performed.

Why did Morse decoding fail?

A sequence may be unknown, or the letter and word separators may be missing or ambiguous.

Can the converter play Morse code sound?

No. This tool converts text only and does not generate audio.
