Tool guide

Free Online ASCII Encoder / Decoder

Convert standard ASCII text into decimal character codes, or decode decimal values from 0 through 127 back into text. Choose spaces, commas, or line breaks for encoded output and copy or download the result.

Steps

How it works

  • Choose Text to ASCII or ASCII to Text.
  • Select a separator when encoding, or enter decimal codes separated by spaces, commas, or line breaks.
  • Convert values within the standard ASCII range.
  • Copy or download the converted text.

Highlights

Key features

  • Uses decimal ASCII values from 0 through 127.
  • Offers space, comma, and newline separators for encoded output.
  • Accepts spaces, commas, and other whitespace between codes when decoding.
  • Supports printable ASCII and control-character values.
  • Rejects non-ASCII text and invalid, fractional, or out-of-range codes.
  • Provides plain-text file input, copy, and download actions.

Use cases

Common uses

  • Look up decimal character codes for basic Latin text.
  • Decode a list of standard ASCII values.
  • Create code examples with a chosen delimiter.
  • Inspect spaces, tabs, line breaks, and printable ASCII characters.

Notes

Limitations to know

  • Only standard 7-bit ASCII values 0-127 are supported.
  • Accented letters, emoji, and other Unicode characters are rejected.
  • Extended ASCII is not supported because it refers to multiple incompatible 8-bit character sets.
  • Control values can create invisible characters or whitespace in decoded output.
  • The tool outputs decimal codes only, not binary or hexadecimal, and does not process arbitrary files.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

6 answers
Does ASCII Encoder use decimal values?

Yes. Encoded output contains decimal character codes.

Which values are valid ASCII?

Whole numbers from 0 through 127 are accepted.

Are ASCII control characters supported?

Yes. They can be encoded and decoded, although some produce invisible output such as tabs or line breaks.

What happens to emoji or accented text?

It is rejected because those characters are outside standard ASCII. Use a Unicode-aware tool instead.

What is extended ASCII?

It is a general label for several different 8-bit encodings, not one universal standard; this tool does not implement them.

Which delimiters can separate ASCII codes?

Decode input accepts spaces, commas, line breaks, and other whitespace.
