Steps

How it works

  • Choose WebP files or drop a folder into the upload area.
  • Review which files were detected as static or animated.
  • Start conversion and follow the sequential FFmpeg progress.
  • Preview a completed WebM and download outputs individually or through available ZIP groups.

Highlights

Key features

  • Converts static and animated WebP input to WebM.
  • Supports up to 500 files, with an 80 MB limit per input.
  • Uses the libvpx video encoder included with the browser-side FFmpeg build.
  • Creates codec-compatible even dimensions and an opaque yuv420p video output.
  • Includes video preview, per-file status, individual downloads, and ZIP options.

Use cases

Common uses

  • Turn WebP animations into browser-friendly video assets.
  • Prepare silent clips for web pages or compatible editing tools.
  • Convert several animated graphics into WebM in one workflow.
  • Create a WebM copy of a static WebP where a video file is required.

Notes

Limitations to know

  • The WebM contains no audio because the source WebP has no audio stream.
  • The current libvpx yuv420p output does not preserve transparency.
  • Animation timing and image quality may change during encoding.
  • Static WebP input can produce a very short single-frame video.
  • WebM playback, FFmpeg performance, and memory capacity vary across browsers and devices.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

5 answers
Can I convert animated WebP to WebM?

Yes, when FFmpeg can decode the animation. Its frames are encoded into a silent WebM video.

Does the WebM preserve transparency?

No. The current converter uses an opaque yuv420p output, so transparent WebP areas should not be expected to remain transparent.

Will the WebM have audio?

No. WebP files contain no audio, and the converter explicitly creates video-only WebM output.

Can I convert multiple WebP files?

Yes. The batch workflow processes up to 500 files sequentially, with each input limited to 80 MB.

Why can WebM conversion take a while?

FFmpeg must decode and re-encode the frames in your browser. Long animations, high resolutions, and large batches need more processing time and memory.
